Dentist Oversight When Using AI-Assisted Audit Tools

What AI can and cannot do in dental audit preparation, and why dentist review and approval must remain central.

What AI assistance can reasonably do

AI-assisted tools can help sort documents, compare billed codes with chart text, highlight records that appear to be missing and draft an organized index. These are clerical and consistency tasks that take staff significant time.

What it should not do

  • Make clinical diagnoses or decide whether treatment was appropriate
  • Create, alter or backdate clinical records
  • Submit anything to a carrier without human approval
  • Promise how a carrier will decide

We'll walk you through the planned workflow using synthetic data.

Keeping the dentist in control

CareProof is being designed so every potential issue is presented as a suggestion linked to its source, and nothing is included in a submission package until a dentist has reviewed and approved it. Responsibility for the clinical record remains with the dentist.

We're inviting a small number of Canadian dental offices to help shape CareProof as founding pilot partners.
